It is Richter's wit and subtle irony that blurs the line between sculpture and design. In a reinterpretation of the classic highboy storage unit, Richter again uses inventive appropriation of materials to critique high fashion and "ideal" form. Towering nine feet high, the stacked cubes are designed for storing next to nothing. Upholstered in seductive faux fur, the sexy openings invite purpose, leaving the user ultimately unfulfilled. True to the paradox, retailer Nordstrom purchased several of the Highboy/Heygirl units to display cosmetics.
